Why is it some want to turn over our health care system to the same politicians mentioned above?

The Health Care Bill (HCB) has been signed in to law. I have heard some of my friends and family say things like, "Well, at least they are doing something", "At least they are moving in the right direction", "finally, Congress has done something". Well, I have a few questions:

1. If the HCB is so good, why did the Congressional leaders and the President have to coerce and/or bribe members of their own party to get the bill passed?

2. Why are most of the benefits delayed until 2014? Some are delayed until 2018.

3. Why is the President and some members of Congress and their staff's exempt?

4. Now that the Federal government can force us all to purchase something, what will they try to force us to buy next? A GM car?

5. What ever happened to the land of the free? I don't think Francis Scott Key meant the land of free health care (which isn't really free).

6. Why are those who usually love to refer to the separation of church and state, the same people who quote Jesus' statements about helping the needy to back up their support of the HCB?

7. Why is it considered theft if my neighbor, who needs health care, comes to me and demands I pay for it at the point of a gun, but when the IRS comes to my door to demand the same thing, it is to fulfill someone's idea of compassion?

8. Why am I considered to be a racist, if I disagree with the policies of the first black President? I'm sorry, the second black President. Bill Clinton was the first.

9. Why are Student Loans part of the HCB? So, some of the cost of this bill is being put on the backs of students paying off their student loans.

10. Why do we trust the CBO to accurately predict the future cost of the HCB? They certainly do not have a very good track record of predicting the cost of other bills. Take Medicare for example. The actual costs are about 10 times what was estimated.

11. Did anyone who voted on the HCB actually read the bill? This is the really scary part for me. How can anyone vote for a bill if they don't even know what is in it?

12. Why do we trust the same people who run the Post Office and Amtrak to run our health care system? The HCB gives new definition to "all aboard".

13. Why can't the supporters of the HCB be generous with their own money and keep their mits off of my wallet? There should be a line on the Federal Tax Return, "Do you want to contribute to the health care costs of others?" "If so, how much?" Then they can pay more in taxes and leave the rest of us alone.

14. Why must the Vice President drop the f*** bomb in public?

15. How did they come up with the age of 26 for children to be covered on their parent's insurance? Why not, 27, or 37, or 57? Why put any age limit on it? I want my mommy to pay for my insurance. If I had a 26 year old child still living at my house, they would need health insurance :)

I am sure there will be more questions to follow.

Should we look to kings and princes to put right the inequalities between rich and poor? Should we require soldiers to come and seize the rich person's gold and distribute it among his destitute neighbors? Should we beg the emperor to impose a tax on the rich so great that it reduces them to the level of the poor and then to share the proceeds of that tax among everyone? Equality imposed by force would achieve nothing, and do much harm. Those who combined both cruel hearts and sharp minds would soon find ways of making themselves rich again. Worse still, the rich whose gold was taken away would feel bitter and resentful; while the poor who received the gold from the hands of soldiers would feel no gratitude, because no generosity would have prompted the gift. Far from bringing moral benefit to society, it would actually do moral harm. Material justice cannot be accomplished by compulsion, a change of heart will not follow. The only way to achieve true justice is to change people's hearts first -- and then they will joyfully share their wealth. - St. John Chysostom

These words were attributed to St. John Chrysostom in the book "On Living Simply" compiled by Robert Van de Weyer. Unfortunately, Mr. Van de Weyer did not provide the citation and I have not been able to find exactly where this quote came from. Nevertheless, whether St. John Chysostom actually said these words or not, I find them to be very powerful. If I didn't know better, I would say he must have been reading today's newspapers. Wealth redistribution is the theme of the day. I think we should heed his words, "Far from bringing moral benefit, it would actually do moral harm." Stealing is stealing, no matter who does it, a person or the state.

Gay rights activists say the bill, which has prompted growing international opposition, promotes hatred and could set back efforts to combat HIV/AIDS. They believe the bill is part of a continent wide backlash because Africa's gay community is becoming more vocal.

I have often wondered why the peace loving Muslim community does not stand up in opposition to the terrorist's actions. Perhaps they do, but we do not hear about it.

In that same light, I stand in opposition to this proposal in Uganda. I will be the first to state my view that homosexuality or any sexual relations outside of marriage is sin. But I also believe that this bill goes way overboard in reaction to the issue. I reserve the death penalty for those who take another persons life. This proposal, in a word, is wrong and I pray will not pass.

The lunch conversation inevitably turned to whether the White House would display its crèche, customarily placed in a prominent spot in the East Room. Ms. Rogers, this participant said, replied that the Obamas did not intend to put the manger scene on display — a remark that drew an audible gasp from the tight-knit social secretary sisterhood. (A White House official confirmed that there had been internal discussions about making Christmas more inclusive and whether to display the crèche.)
Yet in the end, tradition won out; the executive mansion is now decorated for the Christmas holiday, and the crèche is in its usual East Room spot.

The White House wanted to make Christmas more inclusive by excluding that which represents the story of the birth of Christ, the reason for the season, as they say. More inclusive by excluding Jesus, hmmm, I don't get it. I am glad tradition, reason and common sense won out.

Hope and change. I am hoping for a change in 2012, if we last as a nation until then.

NH court orders home-schooled child into government-run school

LACONIA, N.H. — An Alliance Defense Fund allied attorney filed motions with a New Hampshire court Monday asking it to reconsider and stay its decision to order a 10 year-old home-schooled girl into a government-run school in Meredith. Although the marital master making recommendations to the court agreed the child is “well liked,social and interactive with her peers, academically promising, and intellectually at or superior to grade level” and that “it is clear that the home schooling...has more than kept up with the academic requirements of the...public school system,” he nonetheless proposed that the Christian girl be ordered into a government-run school after considering “the impact of [her religious] beliefs on her interaction with others.” The court approved the order.

This is outrageous and another example of the elitist government abuse of parental rights. As I have stated before, the mandatory government school system was the beginning of the end of the family unit as we knew it.

This book was first published in 1946. It reads though, as if it was written yesterday. Today's headlines of government bailouts and deficit spending are the subject of this book. According to Hazlitt, everything the government is doing today to try to "fix" the economy is exactly the opposite of what should be done.

To quote him, the one lesson is: "The art of economics consists of looking not merely at the immediate but at the longer effects of any act or policy; it consists in tracing the consequences of that policy not merely for one group but for all groups".

In a nutshell, most of the spending government does may benefit one special interest group in the short term, but usually does not benefit all groups and may hurt other groups in the long run. Since this book was first published, I believe history shows that he is correct.

I highly recommend this book for anyone, conservative or liberal. However, this could be hazardous to the health of a liberal.

Doctor: Lack of medical helicopter cost actress

NEW YORK – As a steady stream of celebrities pay their last respects to Natasha Richardson, questions are arising over whether a medical helicopter might have been able to save the ailing actress.

The province of Quebec lacks a medical helicopter system, common in the United States and other parts of Canada, to airlift stricken patients to major trauma centers. Montreal's top head trauma doctor said Friday that may have played a role in Richardson's death.

"It's impossible for me to comment specifically about her case, but what I could say is ... driving to Mont Tremblant from the city (Montreal) is a 2 1/2-hour trip, and the closest trauma center is in the city. Our system isn't set up for traumas and doesn't match what's available in other Canadian cities, let alone in the States," said Tarek Razek, director of trauma services for the McGill University Health Centre, which represents six of Montreal's hospitals.

I live in a small town in Pennsylvania. There is a trauma center nearby. Helicopters fly in and out of there all of the time. Perhaps the outcome would have been the same here. But, there are those who want to have a healthcare system like Canada's. No thanks.

Listening to the news this morning about the AIG bailout and the paying of bonuses, I was reminded of something Jesus said to the Pharisees:

The Congress gave AIG over $100 Billion (with a B). The bonuses paid out was over $100 Million (with an M). That is 1/10th of one percent. This is like getting upset if you give someone in need $10 and they put a penny in a slot machine. Yes, they shouldn't throw the money away like that, but let's be real. How is the other 99.9 % of the money being spent?

Plus, where is the outrage about the amount of money AIG contributed to members of Congress as campaign contributions? Senator Dodd and former Senator Obama (now our most holy President) head the list.

It is time to get real and stop all these bailouts. Cut government spending. Make Congress tighten their belts. Reduce taxes and we will see the economy take off.

The world as we know it is being shaken. The "change we can believe in", promised by our President, is shaking the very foundations of our society. The stock market is tanking. People are losing their jobs and their retirement funds. The age of Obama is getting off to a miserable start. (I won't say I told you so.)

So what is happening? To put it simply, those who built there house upon the sand are being shaken to the core of their being. Those who built their house upon the rock (Christ Jesus) will be able to withstand the winds that are blowing and the earth that is shaking.

Last evening, prior to Vespers, my wife and I were chrismated into the Holy Orthodox Church.

I chose as my patron saint, St. David the King and Prophet. My wife chose St. Kasiani (Cassiane). Since we are both musicians and have written church music, albeit western contemporary music, they both seemed very appropriate. Our Godparents gave us each a beautiful cross and an icon of our patron saint. We were truly blessed.

Today, we both received our first communion as Orthodox Christians. It was a day we will never forget. To be able to partake of the heavenly food is such a great blessing.

Glory to God for ever and ever.

( CNSNews.com ) - Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) was the only GOP presidential candidate to make an appearance at the 35th annual March for Life on Tuesday, the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision giving women the right to abortion on demand.

Paul got an enthusiastic reception from the crowd, with many marchers waving Ron Paul signs and banners.

I have not been a Ron Paul supporter, but he just moved up a step in my mind. Where were the other candidates?

Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create an allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the “research” to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.

It always comes down to money, cash, moollah. Even scientists, the new clergy class, are corrupted by the flash of gold (greed).

Nobel Peace laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu yesterday thanked Pittsburghers who worked to end apartheid in South Africa and received an unprecedented dual honorary doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University.

He also threw down a theological challenge on a doctrine that the worldwide Anglican Communion is threatening to split over.

In his sermon, he poked fun at the belief that only those who accept Jesus as their savior can enter heaven.

I thought his message was one of reconciliation and here he is poking fun of traditional Christianity.

"Can you imagine that there are those who think God is a Christian?" he said to laughter from a mostly appreciative audience. "Can you tell us what God was before he was a Christian?"

Aaaah, yea, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

More than 1,300 people crammed into lofty Calvary Episcopal Church, East Liberty, yesterday for the interfaith prayer service, part of the archbishop's first visit here.

Jared Cohon, president of Carnegie Mellon University, noted the unusual setting for the secular universities to award their degree, but said the archbishop's role in ending brutal segregation and working for reconciliation in South Africa made extraordinary gestures easy. He awarded the degree with Mark Nordenberg, chancellor at Pitt.

They were surrounded by religious leaders, from evangelical Presbyterians to Muslims to rabbis to Catholic Bishop David Zubik of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Bishop Robert Duncan of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, a leader among theologically conservative Anglicans, also attended.

The location was significant for Bishop Duncan because Calvary is suing the diocese over Bishop Duncan's effort to change church property rules so that congregations can more easily leave the Episcopal Church. Calvary's rector, the Rev. Harold Lewis, is an old friend of Archbishop Tutu and towered over the diminutive archbishop, who was seated in a red chair near the pulpit.

The church was filled with those who supported the archbishop's social justice concerns both now and 20 years ago, when black people couldn't enter white South African neighborhoods without a "guest worker" pass. He opened his sermon with thanks to those who had prayed, marched and gone to jail to protest apartheid.

"One of the great privileges ... is to be able to come to places such as this and say to you: We asked for your help. You gave it. We are free. Thank you, thank you, thank you," he said.

He spoke of marching side by side with rabbis and imams.
"They were all inspired by their faiths. I have yet to hear of a faith that says it's OK to be unjust," he said.

How about those who have their followers straping on bombs and killing innocents.

"Injustice and oppression isn't just evil, which it is. It's not just painful, which it certainly is for the victim. It's like spitting in the face of God."

He invoked his friendship with the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Buddhist leader who has been exiled from his homeland for nearly 50 years. Although others would be embittered, the Dalai Lama is filled with "bubbly joyousness," he said.

"You have to be totally, totally insensitive not to know you are in the presence of someone who is holy and good."

"There is none righteous, no not one". "Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner".

He then asked, "Can anyone say to the Dalai Lama, 'You are a good guy. What a shame you are not a Christian'?"

Yes, I can say that.

His question drew laughs, but was a direct challenge to conservative Anglicans, who have long said that their deepest concern about the Anglican Communion is not gay ordination but the rejection of classic doctrines about Jesus. One of the most important is the belief that humans can only come into the presence of God if their sins have been forgiven, and that their sins can only be forgiven because Jesus died to atone for those sins.

You got it.

After equating that with the belief that "God is a Christian," Archbishop Tutu spoke of a human family in which members must love one another even when some relatives are obnoxious. When Jesus said he would "draw all" people to himself, he meant both President Bush and the "gay, lesbian and so-called straight," he said.

That is correct. All mankind would be drawn to Him (Jesus), not the Dalai Lama or Mohammed or even Bishop Tutu.

He spoke of God having a dream -- and drew laughter when he acknowledged in an aside that Martin Luther King "might have said something like that, too."
"Please help me, says God. Help me to realize my dream," he concluded, to great applause.

Aaah, what?

Bishop Duncan was torn in his reaction to the sermon.

Part of it "was Anglicanism at its best, which is its commitment to building God's kingdom here on earth," he said.

"But it was also partly an essay on what is dividing Anglicanism. I think a perceptive listener would understand that the middle part of the archbishop's sermon was a challenge to the traditional Christian understanding of the means by which we all gain access to heaven."
He said the archbishop had misrepresented the beliefs of conservatives, particularly in the line about God being a Christian.

"What the archbishop's sermon did was twisting the classic Christian understanding in a way that took the narrowest possible reading of traditional Christianity," he said.

Few others appeared to share the bishop's theological reservations. Dr. Lewis said he was "exhilarated" by the visit.

"His message is a message of reconciliation, peace and harmony," he said.

Right, he just made fun of traditional Christianity. Tutu is a typical liberal. He wants everyone to be reconciled to his way of thinking. Peace is agreeing with him.

May 3, 2007 -- Call him Father Jim. Gay former Gov. Jim McGreevey is becoming an Episcopal priest and has been accepted to study at a seminary school in Chelsea.
The lapsed Catholic will enter a three-year master of divinity program at the General Theological Seminary in September, while undergoing the long process of ordination at St. Bartholomew's Church on Park Avenue.
McGreevey, who sensationally announced that he was a "gay American" after former lover and aide Golan Cipel threatened to out him, went through the first step to becoming a priest on Sunday when he was received into the Episcopal church.

I would have no problem with this if he repents of his sins and attempts to live a chaste life. However, I doubt that will be required of him by those helping him in the discernment process.

Why not fast track him to be the next Bishop of NJ?

Declaring a 'holy fast,' Grace Episcopal Church has decided to stop performing all wedding ceremonies because its bishops bar the blessing of same-sex unions.

'Gays and lesbians are the church, as much, if not more, as I am as a straight white man,' he said in his sermon. 'But this sacrament, and the grace it is meant to convey, is not available to them.'

Yes, it is available to them. They can marry anytime they want, just not to someone of the same sex.

'I am convinced that when gays and lesbians are baptized, they become full members of the body of Christ,' said Bullitt-Jonas. 'They are not partial members or conditional members or second-class members.'

They are full members. They must repent of there sins the same as everyone else.

This is pretty childish behavior. If I can't have my way, I am going to take my marbles and go home.

MINNEAPOLIS - A North Pole expedition meant to bring attention to global warming was called off after one of the explorers got frostbite.

The explorers, Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen, on Saturday called off what was intended to be a 530-mile trek across the Arctic Ocean after Arnesen suffered frostbite in three of her toes, and extreme cold temperatures drained the batteries in some of their electronic equipment.

The research on more than 200,000 women from nine European countries found doing household chores was far more cancer protective than playing sport. Dusting, mopping and vacuuming was also better than having a physical job.

Out of all of the activities, only housework significantly reduced the risk of both pre-and post-menopausal women getting the disease. Housework cut breast cancer risk by 30% among the pre-menopausal women and 20% among the post-menopausal women.

Imagine that. I bet if women were told that chewing shoe leather would reduce their risk of breast cancer, it would be on every newscast and talk show 24/7. But this news has been kept on the QT. I can't imagine why.

Congressional Republicans Pick Pro-Life Stalwarts as Party Leaders

-- The Republican caucus in the House of Representatives picked pro-life lawmakers to head their party as they assume the minority position in Congress. They re-elected two of their current pro-life leaders by having John Boehner of Ohio serve as Minority Leader and Roy Blunt of Missouri as Minority Whip.

Looks like the Republicans are on the right path. Whether or not they ever regain control of the Congress, at least they are doing the right thing.

The strong pro-life records contrast with the pro-abortion and pro-embryonic stem cell research positions of the Democratic leaders.

Members of the Democratic caucus in the House sealed their plan to promote abortion and embryonic stem cell research in the next session of Congress as they picked staunch abortion advocates to lead their party. That means pro-abortion lawmakers will set the agenda of the House for the next two years. Democrats unanimously named pro-abortion California Rep. Nancy Pelosi as the first female Speaker of the House.

Pelosi is a staunch abortion advocate. In the last Congressional session alone, Pelosi compiled a 0 percent pro-life voting record on 10 votes NRLC recorded.

Some say that there is no difference between the parties. I think this shows there is a major difference.

AL GORE flies in to warn about global warming and -- he's done it again! -- Victoria gets snow in November.Call it the Gore Effect -- the uncanny ability of the world's most famous global warming alarmist to cool any place he tours. You see, this has happened to the former US vice-president and narrator of An Inconvenient Truth rather a lot.

It was first noticed in Boston in 2004, when Gore was due to give a big speech in Boston on the imminent danger of the world frying.

Bingo! The city had its coldest temperatures in almost 50 years. Same story with his speech that year in New York -- delivered in near-record low temperatures.

Sounds like Al should do a global tour. But then, what would he have to complain about.

House Democrats Name Hoyer to No. 2 Post

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats picked Rep. Steny Hoyer to be House majority leader on Thursday, spurning Rep. Nancy Pelosi's handpicked choice moments after unanimously backing her election as speaker when Congress convenes in January.

Oh well, you can't win them all. I guess some of the Democrats took Pelosi seriously when she said she wanted the cleanest congress ever, by voting down someone tainted by the Abscam scandal (Murtha). Even though she didn't mean a word of it. How do I know that? Her lips were moving (old joke).

I wonder if this is a sign of what is to come from Pelosi's reign of terror.

Tag is now out during recess at Willett Elementary School in Attleboro.

So is touch football and any other unsupervised "chasing" games that are deemed to pose the risk of injury as well as liability to the school.

Back in the day (60's), when I was in high school, dodgeball was outlawed because it was too rough. In fact, because it was so rough, we called it battleball instead of dodgeball. In order to get around the ban on dodgeball (aka battleball), the gym teachers simply changed the name to leisureball. It continued to be a rough game and was one of our favorite games to play in gym class.

Now, because of fearful parents and administrators, Tag is being outlawed in some schrools. I have an idea. Simply change the name to "You're It" and let the kids have some fun.

Silver Linings

They say there is a silver lining behind every cloud. The recent news shows that this may be true.

Cloud: A man takes over an Amish school and murders several young girls.

Silver Lining: The word "forgiveness" is being spoken on the nightly news and is being modeled before our eyes by the Amish. Yes, those backward folks who don't even know what an Ipod is or use Instant Messaging, are showing all of us what it means to turn the other cheek.

Cloud: A member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mark Foley (R-FL), resigns after his despicable behavior is brought to the light of day.

Silver Lining: Even the liberal Democrats are saying that certain behavior is beyond the pale. Some are even using language that would be considered gay bashing if used by someone with an "R" behind their name. If only they would use the same energy against their own. Does the name Kennedy or Frank or Reynolds ring any bells. Maybe the Boy Scouts aren't so wrong in wanting to keep homosexual men away from young boys.

What I have learned since 9/11/2001:

1. There are people out there who want to kill us. They want us dead for no other reason than that we are citizens of the United States of America. They are even willing to murder women and children, the innocent, and members of their own religion.

2. There are people in this country who do not believe #1 is a serious problem. They think it is best to appease the evil doers.

3. There are people in this country who think that we are the real evil doers, and George Bush is the most evil of all. He is to blame for everything: hurricanes and the damage they cause, high gas prices (of course nothing is said when prices go down), terrorist attacks, global warming, etc. I am surprised that he hasn't been blamed for the death of the crocodile man. Where was Bush when that happened, anyway?

4. There are a lot of sick people out there.

First Day of (Government) School

Today is the first day of school for the kids in my area. My commute to work was delayed because of the school bus stops. At several stops, I noticed a group of parents saying goodbye with cameras flashing and tears in their eyes.

A photo to mark in time this great event. The day you turn your kids over to someone else to raise. The day you lose that close bond with your child and they return a stranger. The last day your family will ever be the same.

Let us pray for the children and their families:

O God, our heavenly Father, who lovest mankind, and art most merciful and compassionate, have mercy upon thy servants (Name those whom you wish to remember) for whom I humbly pray thee, and commend to thy gracious care and protection. The 2006 General Convention (GC2006) of The Episcopal Church (TEC, formerly known as ECUSA) is now over. The GC2006 can be summarized in one word, clarity.

The leaders of TEC have certainly brought clarity. It is clear that they want to continue down the liberal, revisionist, relativist path.

Frankly, I am a little surprised by this. I hoped for repentance, changing direction back to the historic church. I thought there would be alot of fudge. Trying to play off both sides and standing for nothing. Instead, they are clearly moving down the path of destruction. My response to this is: "SSSee Ya, wouldn't want to be Ya".

I haven't been able to post much lately, but I wanted to be sure to post something today, May (Commie) Day, 2006. I didn't want anyone to think that I was participating in today's strike or even giving passive support.

I have heard a lot about justice for those who are in the U.S. illegally. Well, what about justice for those who are following the rules and waiting in line to enter the U.S.? What about justice for those in the medical or educational fields, who must deal with overcrowding due to illegals? What about justice for those whose property values have decreased because of the shacks built next door? There is a lot of injustice to go around.

The joke is that the discussion about illegal immigration and the open borders began as a result of 9/11. We need to secure the borders so that terrorists cannot enter this country and do us more harm. We seem to be taking our eyes off the ball with all the talk of what to do with the illegals who are already here. First things first. Secure the borders, so that our enemy cannot get in here and kill us all.

Baddeley Wins Verizon Heritage for First PGA Tour Title

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Aaron Baddeley began the day in the most perfect place he could imagine, on Harbour Town's lighthouse closing hole speaking about his Christian faith.

He called on that faith hours later Sunday on the same hole, repeating part of a New Testament verse as he stood over the winning 6-foot par putt in the final round of the Verizon Heritage.

"I said, 'This is for you Jesus,' and knocked it in," Baddeley said.

While watching this on TV, I was taken back by the commentators references to Aaron's faith. I know of other pro golfers who are Christians, but the CBS crew just could not mention it enough about Aaron. Perhaps it was the timing of the event, finishing on Easter day. I don't know. Every year there is a PGA event on Easter weekend. My guess is that other Christian's have won those events in the past. So, why the special attention now?

I do know that I have a new golfer to route for. Go Baddeley!!
