What is wrong with this picture?

The following headlines are real:

(AgapePress) A pro-family group in Massachusetts is blowing the lid off an obscene homosexual education conference put on by the Boston chapter of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

AgapePress) An elementary school in Knoxville, Tennessee, has been threatened with a federal lawsuit after its principal told a group of young students they cannot study their Bibles during recess or even bring their Bibles to school.

So, it is OK to hand out obscene literature to school children, but we can't let them read the Bible. And then there is this one:

...The American Civil Liberties Union has asked a federal judge to jail public school teachers and administrators for allegedly violating a court-imposed ban on school prayers. It's the fourth time the ACLU has told Judge Ginger Berrigan that officials in Louisiana's Tangipahoa Parish are flouting her prayer ban. This time, the ACLU says an elementary school teacher repeatedly held prayers in her fourth-grade class, encouraged students to bring their Bibles to school, held Bible studies in the school cafeteria and admonished students who did not show up. In addition, the ACLU cites a prayer "in Jesus' name" that was recently given over a high school's public address system while the principal sat by silently. The ACLU says school officials' violation of the prayer ban "must result in their removal from society." [AP] Whaaaat... "must result in their removal from society"? What does that mean?

Has this country gone nuts? Oh I forgot, the only obscene thing in this world is the Bible and the name of Jesus. Everything else is fine. The MSM goes nuts over alledged mistreatment of the Koran, but it is OK to remove someone from society who prays in the name of Jesus.

I think I am going to be sick.

I am afraid the the Christian Press has spun the truth out of this story.

As I understand it, the whole story is; The Principal was asked by a parent of one of the children to be allowed to lead a bible study for 'some children' instead of recess. (not the the children themself wanted this)

The school's policy is ALL children will recess at recess. They feel this time is best spent in recreation, so they can study better later in the day.

The district allows bible clubs before and after school, but not durring lunch. (there are options that allow both play and bible study)

There is NO rule against a bible at the school, the principal even has one in her office. (If true, just a lie from the 'christian' spokesperson)

Most of this was made up by the legal group who is representing the mother.

and.

No one should ever be forced to pray, and that is what the administration in that school distrcit is doing.

IF the school was doing the same thing, but with Islamic prayer, would you still be as supportive?

John,

You are right. The spin machine spins both ways. The underlining issue remains however. If a parent of a student does not want him/her to participate in the sex education class, the student is made to excuse themself and is often derided by the class and the teacher. But, if a student does not want to say a prayer, the whole class, school, and country must refain from the practice in order not to hurt someone's feelings.

I don't know if anyone was forced to pray. If so, how is that done? If I am forced to pray to a God I don't believe in, is that really praying?

My original point is still valid. The Bible and prayer are seen by some as something obscene whereas explicit sexual content is not. Seems backwards to me.

Cal Williams, whoever you are, the only crazy person is yourself, straining out knats and swallowing camels. You think abortion and homosexuality and school prayer are the most pressing issues facing our society? I only wish you were right.

I hope you don't have kids, because they will in a world of poisoned air, poisoned water (except where owned by multi-national corporations) and without the rights and freedoms you take for granted. They will be poorer than you and not enjoy the standard of living you have. They will live in a hobbsian world run by and for the few who are rich and priviledged. They will live in a world of glaring injustice, and if they are injured by the negligance of some giant corporation, they will not be able to sue for redress. They will fight and die in wars that serve little real purpose except to pour obscene profits into the coffers of military contractors and suppliers.

It fills me with somber indignation that you should repeat the cant and lies of a lunatic fringe that claims to be Christian. I can only hope you are sincere, because then I can pity you. Because if you repeat the lies knowing they are lies, you are beneath contempt.

The ACLU is 2/3rds psychotic and 1/3rd good people trying to uphold the constitution. I still LIKE them, I just wouldn't give any money to them.
