Atheist Now Sues to Take Motto Off Money
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (AP) - An atheist who has spent four years trying to ban the Pledge of Allegiance from being recited in public schools is now challenging the motto printed on U.S. currency because it refers to God.
Michael Newdow seeks to remove "In God We Trust" from U.S. coins and dollar bills, claiming in a federal lawsuit filed Thursday that the motto is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion.
I agree. Let's change the motto. I offer the following suggestions:
- In Nothing We Trust
- In Ourselves We Trust
- In Cash We Trust
- In Government We Trust
- In the People We Trust
- In Our Feelings We Trust
- We Only Trust In What We Can See
- In _____ We Trust - (Fill in the Blank)
Wait a minute. Which religion is being endorsed by this motto? What law has Congress enacted establishing a religion?
I don't like any of the alternative motto's listed above. Maybe we shouldn't have a motto. Maybe we should get rid of all national symbols. We wouldn't want to offend anyone, would we? No matter what symbol we use someone may be offended. So let's eliminate them all. Let's have free of symbol zones, like we have no smoking zones. No motto's, no flags, no nothing. Then everyone will be happy and we can live together in peace.

This fellow had better be carefull that God does not decide to eliminate all that He finds offensive from His creation. Somehow, I don't think that mankind would come out on the winning end of that "reform".
