Lectionary readings for 3/8/05

John 6: 16- 27

25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"
26 Jesus answered them, "Very truly, I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.
27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal."

Jesus feeds the 5000+. That evening, He walks on the sea during a storm. The crowd finds Him on the other side and wonders how He got there. We often judge the crowd in our 20/20 hindsight. I wonder what I would have done if I were there. Would I be amazed? Would I fall at His feet and worhsip Him? Would I join the crowd and ask for more in order to satisfy my belly? I don't know. I hope I would have heeded His words and worked for that which gives eternal life.

It doesn't really matter what I would have done if I was in the crowd, since I wasn't. It does matter what I do now, however. Lord, help me to follow you as you wish.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.
